Melchor Ocampo: a naturalist patriot in the eyes of José Martí

The profile of Melchor Ocampo that appeared in the Universal Magazine on June 12, 1875 is commented on, whose distinctive stylistic features allow us to undeniably ensure that it was written by José Martí. The biography of this distinguished Mexican patriot is delved into and the motivations that could have induced the Cuban National Hero to make this praise are valued, among which stands out the bond that both felt for nature, the studies that the Michoacan had carried out about the plants, as well as the mutual interest in the vindication of American autochthony and the values of this continent.
