History

Monteverdia emerged in 2008 at the Center for Environmental Studies and Environmental Education (current Center for Environmental Management Studies), belonging to the “José Martí” University of Pedagogical Sciences of Camagüey under the direction of Dr. C. Isidro Eduardo Mendez Santos.

Among the objectives of its creation was: the strengthening of the institutional capacity provided by the Center for Environmental Studies and Environmental Education to the former “José Martí” University of Pedagogical Sciences of Camagüey, as well as the significant increase in the information generated for R&D&i projects in environmental studies in Cuba. In addition, have a space for the dissemination of primary information obtained as a result of the execution of research projects or practical experiences in general, technological development and innovation, where significant and novel contributions will be made to the theoretical debate in this field.

From issue 1 of 2012 a second era of Monteverdia began. This decision of the Editorial Board responded to the intention of providing a better service to readers, authors, editors and reviewers, which is why it began to be managed in Open Journal Systems (OJS). In the second period, the style manual of the American Psychological Association in its 5th edition was adopted for writing contributions. It was also registered in the Latindex Directory since July 2014. Since July 2018, it has been indexed in REDIB, Google Scholar and ResearchBib. Since July 2020, it has been indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).

Since January 2015, with the university integration process, Monteverdia belongs to the Center for Environmental Management Studies of the University of Camagüey “Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz”. At this time it is oriented towards environmental management publications, so the thematic profile of the magazine covers various lines of research in the field of environmental sciences, such as management, environmental education and training, risk management and adaptation to climate change. , Ecology, History, Economics and environmental law, human environment, local and sustainable development.

In January 2019, the continuous publication system began to be adopted and the number of permanent sections was reduced. The current objective maintains the essence of what the publication had in its beginnings, although in the new context of the integrated university.
