When creating an electronic scientific journal in digital format, whose name pays tribute to Manuel de Monteverde y Bello (Santo Domingo, 1793 - Puerto Príncipe, 1871), six considerations are presented to argue the valuation of this outstanding figure of Camaguey culture as a precursor in environmental studies and pioneer of environmental education: 1) The sensitivity he felt and managed to convey in this regard. 2) What I contribute to the knowledge of the local environment. 3) He was a champion of agricultural diversification. 4) He held moderate anthropocentrist positions. 5) He had an outstanding career as an educator and extension worker. 6) He was ahead of his time and in many aspects surpassed the possibilities of the social context in
that he lived.
